Sequel to the unrest ongoing at the state owned Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island Amassoma, due to some lingering issues between the Student Community and the School Management.
The Honourable Commissioner for Education Bayelsa State, Hon. Dr. Gentle E. Emelah FCAI,FSM,FCIHRSM have called for calm on behalf of the State Government as the State Government have met with management of the institution and have intervened.
The Commissioner for Education made this known after meeting with the Pro-Chancellor of Niger Delta University, Mathew Seiyefa, Msi., the Vice Chancellor Niger Delta University, Prof. Samuel Edonmiekumo in his office at the Education House Ovom Yenagoa.
The Honourable Commissioner further led the University Leadership to another meeting in Government House chaired by the Deputy Governor of the State, His Excellency, Sen. Lawrence Ehwrujakpo which also was attended by the Secretary to State Government,(SSG) Rt. Hon. Friday Konbowei Benson, The Chief of Staff Government House, Chief Benson Agadaga, The Deputy Chief of Staff Government House, Dr. Peter Akpe among other top government functionaries.
Government received the communique issued by Students of NDU to the Bayelsa State Student Management Committee-SMC who earlier visited the institution to interface directly with the protesting Students.
The Commissioner also assured that all pressing issues raised were discussed extensively with the management of the University and that Government have taken a stand and have communicated same to the management of the University to work with and is assuring all Bayelsans that decisions reached will bring lasting peace to the university and its environs and will also be in the general interest of the state and all Bayelsans therefore, all students are to remain calm, and exercise restraint and all form of decorum as the University management will communicate them shortly.
