Real Hip-hop has always been regarded as an opium of conscious minds though the current inclination towards afrobeats driven rhythm and lyricism in Nigeria has left a huge artistic hole to fill, makes me wonder if there’s still a genre as conscious rap anymore or did the current musical tide wash away how good Hip-hop music used to feel. Bayelsa has an unexplored virgin hub of creativity, true the city gave the world notables like Timaya, Timi Dakolo etc but that’s just a tip of the iceberg cause even a blind man can see Bayelsa is yet to be harvested for her ripe and raw talents working assiduously with very little or no support to make their voice heard around the globe, amongst those who holds the city down in the Hip-hop genre is Can-Mezican, a conscious rapper with a nack for uncanny and witty lyricism, he first made his presence felt on the Nigerian Hip-hop scene in 2020 with the mind blowing single ‘Endangered species’ to the warm reception of music lovers and has gone on to release other great songs after that, the rapper announced earlier this year on Facebook about dropping the song hail Mary which is his debut for this year but had to delay the release due to circumstances beyond his control, but to God be the glory the mind blowing song has finally hit the fan, not forgetting huge production credits to ‘Legacy beatz’ and a stimulating poetic rendition by maria-asumpta Linus (AMLE) the young beautiful female poet featured in the song, sincerely Hip-hop doesn’t get no better than this, what else can we ask for but good music to make us hunger for more.
