In an extraordinary move, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, effective immediately. This decision follows a thorough review of the current situation in the state, which has been marred by governance and security challenges.
As a result of the declaration, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have been suspended from office for a period of six months. To ensure continuity and stability, Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) has been appointed as the Administrator of Rivers State.
The President’s declaration aims to restore order, stability, and good governance in Rivers State. The Administrator will be responsible for managing the state’s affairs, subject to the oversight and approval of the Federal Executive Council.”
