Bayelsans are no doubt talented in various fields like; Music, Comedy, Modelling, Sports etc. Many have even gone for competitions outside & within the state to improve their craft. The Yencityjamz Team will be looking at some talented Bayelsans that have participated in various Competitions outside the state.
1. Timi Dakolo
Timi Dakolo (born January 20, 1981) is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and music producer. He emerged winner of the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007. Accompanying his victory was a recording contract with Sony BMG, in addition to other prizes.
In 2006, Dakolo auditioned for reality show Idols West Africa in Calabar. Timi Dakolo’s songs of choice were Commissioned’s More Than I and Lemar’s Time to Grow. His vocals impressed the judges, and he was seen as a contender for the prize. A week before the viewing of the Top 24 performances, Dakolo received the news that his grandmother had died.
Dakolo first auditioned in Calabar, Cross River State of Nigeria with Commissioned More Than I and Lemar’s Time to Grow. While in the competition, Timi Dakolo was never in the bottom. In the final three weeks of the competition it was revealed by the producers of the show that Timi had the highest number of votes each of those weeks.
While in the competition, Timi’s grandmother died, a week before the viewing of the Top 24 performances. This was a big emotional blow to him. At that time, he turned to his Christian faith for strength to pull through in the competition. Before going to Idols West Africa, Timi was a student of Communication Studies in the University of Port Harcourt.
2. Rebecca Nengi Hampson
Rebecca Nengi Hampson (born January 1st 1998), popularly known as Nengi, is a Nigerian reality TV Personality, Business woman, model, beauty pageant title holder and actress from Bayelsa state. She was crowned Miss Queen of Trust in 2013, Miss Peace Bayelsa in 2014 and made it to Top 5 MBGN in 2017. In September 2020, she emerged 2nd runner up of the hit reality show Big Brother Naija season 5. On the 1st of November 2020, she received the BlvckWomxnWorldwide award for Entrepreneur of the Year.
Nengi made her debut on television on the 19th of July 2020 at the premier of Big Brother Naija season 5 (Lock Down Edition). She was introduced as the 20th and final contestant by the show host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu. The show was aired for a period of 10 weeks, wherein Nengi quickly gained popularity and became the first female housemate in the history of the show to hit 1Million Instagram followers, while still in the house. She also broke a record by becoming the show’s very first Head of House and also the Ultimate Head of House which automatically secured her a spot in the finals.
On the day of the finale, 27th September 2020, Nengi came in 3rd place which made her the 2nd runner up of Big Brother Naija season 5.
3. Blessing Oborududu
Blessing Oborududu (born 12 March 1989 in Gbanranu) is a Nigerian freestyle wrestler. She is currently ranked as the world number two woman wrestler and also the first wrestler to win an Olympic medal representing Nigeria at the Olympics. She is also a ten time African champion from 2010 to 2020.
Oborududu was invited to a national camp in 2007 to take part at the African Games after noticing her impressive performances at school inter-house wrestling competitions. Her parents were initially against her ambition to become a sport wrestler and advised her that wrestling is allocated only for boys. She idolised Canadian-Nigerian wrestler Daniel Igali who was originally regarded as the first person from Nigeria to win an Olympic medal in wrestling.
She has won a gold medal at the African Wrestling Championships every year for the last 11 years, except for 2012 when she did not enter due to competing in the 2012 Summer Olympics. She competed in the freestyle 63 kg event at the 2012 Summer Olympics and was eliminated in the 1/8 finals by Monika Michalik.
She won the bronze medal in the women’s middleweight at the 2014 Commonwealth Games after defeating Chloe Spiteri in her bronze medal match. She also competed in the women’s middleweight at the 2016 Summer Olympics, losing to Soronzonboldyn Battsetseg in the second round. She won a gold medal for women 63 kg category at the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games. She won a gold medal at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games in the 68 kg women’s freestyle wrestling event, defeating Canada’s Danielle Lappage.
She qualified at the 2021 African & Oceania Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament to represent Nigeria at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. In June 2021, she won the silver medal in her event at the 2021 Poland Open held in Warsaw, Poland.
On 3 August 2021, she won the silver medal in the women’s freestyle 68 kg after losing to America’s Tamyra Mensah-Stock 4-1 at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She also became the first Nigerian to win an Olympic medal in wrestling. She also eventually won the Nigeria’s first silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
4. Gift Loveday Igbomgbo
Gift Loveday Igbomgbo, known professionally as MC Aproko, is a Nigerian stand-up comedian. He is the winner of Next Naija Comedy Star and currently the special assistant on entertainment to the governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, since 24 December 2020.
On 2 December 2017, MC Aproko won Comedy Central ‘Grab The Mic’ with Maltina held at Eko Convention Centre and received ₦1.5 million. On 6 May 2018, he won Ibile Comedy Challenge held at Eko Convention Centre and organized by the Lagos State government, receiving ₦1 million.
On 20 December 2020, MC Aproko won Next Naija Comedy Star organized by Ayo Makun, receiving ₦5 million and a car.
On 23 December 2020, he was appointed special assistant on entertainment by the governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri.
5. Timmy Sinclair
Trikytee is a 35-year-old filmmaker and musician from Lagos State. Trikytee was one of the housemates who participated at the 2020 BBNaija Season 5 reality TV show, tagged “Lockdown”. Trikytee’s full name is Timmy Sinclair. Trikytee was born in Bayelsa State and had his early education there. Trikytee attended the University of Port Harcourt where he graduated with a second-class upper degree in Directing and Theatrical Production. Trikytee got admitted in 2007 and graduated from the university in 2011. While in UNIPORT, Trikytee joined the Association of Theatre Arts Students (ATAS), University of Port-Harcourt Chapter, out of his passion for filmmaking.
There is a good reason the housemates always pick Trikytee to direct their acting challenges – he not only studied filmmaking in school but is also experienced in the craft. Trikytee owns a personal film production company called Constellations NG.
Trikytee is also a recording artist and a member of a music band. In 2013, Trikytee participated in the NYSC Cultural and Sports Festival in Abuja, where he won the Best Director award for a stage drama.
6. Naomi Oyintare Mac-Ebiama
Naomi Mac is a 30 years old talented Nigerian singer, songwriter and stage performer who break into the Nigerian music industry scene after being first runner up in The Nigerian Idol, a talent hunt show which was initiated by Etisalat in 2015. Naomi Mac born 1991 is from Bayelsa, Nigeria.
Naomi Mac was poised as one of the favourites to emerge winner of The Voice Nigeria Season 3.
The singer, songwriter, and performer blew many hearts away with her powerful voice during the show with the spellbinding performances.
However, in a shocking twist on the finale, the top three reveal saw the elimination of Naomi Mac leaving Kpee, Eazzie and Esther to battle for the prize money.
Her elimination was in fact the biggest surprise of the finale night as it also got people talking on social media.
Naomi started the night performing a duet with Dapo titled ‘A Million Dreams’ and later performed Mercy Chinwo’s ‘Excess Love’. She was coached by Falz.
Naomi Mac began singing at the age of 6 years old, this was made possible because she was born into a music loving family and she happens to be the third born to her parents It is said that Naomi Mac had her first performance at the age of 7 years old with her sibling Grace Mac, the lady who featured in MTN Project Fame in 2012 and Layefa Mac in local churches in Lagos and western part of Nigeria for over 10 years.
Her major breakthrough came in 2015 when she featured in the first season of Nigerian Idol organized by Etisalat. Since then, she’s been seen featuring in major shows and some of them organized by Etisalat.
Naomi Mac featured Adekunle Gold in one of her single “My Heart” and also collaborated with Pheelz on “Ori Mi“
Naomi Oyintare Mac-Ebiama is married to her sweetheart, Franceasco John in Lagos and they blessed with a Child.
7. Esther Tamaraebi Toko
Esther Tamaraebi Toko (born 28 March 2000) is a Nigerian rower. She won bronze and silver medals at the 2019 African Beach Games and she also qualified to row single sculls at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Toko competed in the 2015 World Rowing Championships and the 2019 African Games. At the latter event, she competed in four events. She then won a bronze and a silver medal at the African Beach Games in Cape Verde in 2019.
Toko was then selected to be the first home-based rower to represent Nigeria at the 2020 Summer Olympics. She qualified to compete in the single sculls after coming third in the B-final at the 2019 FISA African Olympic Qualification Regatta in Tunisia. As of February 2020, she was one of thirteen Nigerian athletes who had qualified for the Olympics in Tokyo in eleven different sports.

8. Daniel Diongoli
Daniel Diongoli professionally known as Idyl is a Nigerian singer from Opokuma, Bayelsa state, songwriter and recording artist. He is the winner of Season 2 of The Voice Nigeria.
After his win at The Voice Nigeria, Idyl performed at the GAC showcase in Guangzhou, China and he released his debut single on the Universal Music imprint, Better Love. In July 2018, he released Owami, featuring South African singer Lungi Naidoo and produced by Ckay, which enjoyed critical success. Idly featured another South African artiste, Rowlene Bosman in March 2019 on the song, Satisfy Me, which was described as an edgier sound compared to his earlier releases. Satisfy Me received favourable responses from audiences and months later, he released an ADM remix. In August 2019, he released another single, Iyoro produced by Sovida, which was recorded in his local Ijaw language. The song title translates to ‘Beautiful woman’ in English.
9. Kingdom Kroseide
Kingdom Kroseide otherwise known as Kingdom is a Nigerian musician, singer and songwriter. He gained popularity after he auditioned for the 6th edition of the Nigerian Idol. Kingdom was born in 1997 in Bayelsa State Nigeria.
Kingdom Kroseide is not your conventional musician; his love for music came from a passion for sounds. For this reason, he decided to learn how to sing. He started watching youtube videos and other singers. Kingdom honed his vocal talent.
Kingdom is not new to singing competitions. In October 2019, he competed in the I Sabi Sing Music Competition, where he emerged as the Bayelsa State Finals winner. He also sings with the Pamela Scott Music band based in Port Harcourt and performs at wedding ceremonies and church services.
Kingdom’s entry into Nigerian Idol was unforgettable as he was one of the few contestants to leave the judges moved. Seyi Shay got teary-eyed during his performance while DJ Sose came up to hug him. Kingdom powered his way through the theatre audition group and solos stages to earn a well-deserved spot among the finalists.
10. Pere Davies Atie
Pere Davies Atie is from Ekeremor, Bayelsa state and a graduate of Niger Delta University. He is the 3rd Runner Up of the 9th Edition of Project Fame West Africa 2016.
He is a Singer/Song-writer, a music director, a picture/fashion model and also a good actor.
Pere has an amazing blend of traditional African music with contemporary vocals. He also has so many mind blowing songs.
11. Ayibapreye Mebine Gabriella
Ayibapreye Mebine Gabriella popularly known by her musical stage name, Tracy Daisy hails from Foropah Town
Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa state Nigeria.
She was born and brought up in Borokiri Port-Harcourt . Tracy is a graduate of Niger Delta University Wilberforce Island, she studied English and Literary Studies.
Tracy started her musical carrier early 2016 and she’s involved in all kinds of music except rap.
Tracy is also a model, she won the 2021 Beauty of Africa International pageant (Baip) Nigeria Finals.
The grand finale for the 14th edition of one of Nigeria’s most prestigious Pageants was held on Friday, 11th June 2021 at the Dr Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The pageant which has the theme “value all women” received over 150 entries who were further screened and cut down to 12 contestants who made it to the camp where Mebine, an English and literary studies graduate of Niger Delta University eventually emerged the winner.
12. Ifiezibe Gagbe
Ifiezibe Gagbe of Bayelsa State, emerged as the most decorated athlete of the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) in Edo after winning 15 medals in the swimming event.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gagbe won eight gold, two silver, and five bronze medals in the aquatic events.
Aside from the laurels won, the swimmer, who also had no fewer than 10 silver medals to her name at the last games held in Abuja in 2018, and broke six records in the swimming event in Edo 2020.
She created new records in 100m Freestyle, 400m individual medley, 1500m freestyle, 200m freestyle, and 400m freestyle.
The Bayelsa swimmer returned a time of 1:01.54 in the 100m freestyle for women, against the festival record of 1:02.66 that was set in 2012.
Gagbe also erased the festival record of 5:47.95 in the 400m individual medley set in 2006 by returning a time of 5:46.95. Similarly, she beat the record of 21:05.10 set in 2018 by finishing the 1500m freestyle women in a new record of 21:04.92.
13. Tamara Ebiola Ebelike
Tamara Ebiola Ebelike is a talented singer from Gbarama-Opokuma, Bayelsa state, she was one of the Top 12 contestants in the ongoing ‘The Voice Nigeria’ Season 3 singing competition. The talented singer was chosen by Falz (A judge in the competition) in the blind auditions, later made it to Top 12. Her voice strength was appreciated by all the judges in the competition.
The Songstress is also passionate and dedicated individual with exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
She has developed excellent written and verbal communication skills, alongside team work and leadership abilities.
She is enthusiastic about marketing and it’s strategies, advertising, market research, digital marketing, social media marketing, product marketing and also being proficient in Microsoft office and SQL database management. She is an artist who provides deeper understanding of emotions through her paintings. She is open to learning and opportunities in the digital space around me.
14. Yerimene Abraham Saibakumo
Yerimene Abraham Saibakumo was a Big Brother Naija 2021 Housemate, a 27 years old Medical Doctor from Bayelsa State. He describes himself as “a perfectionist, creative genius, lover of art and poetic rap music”. He sees himself as a renaissance man who isn’t confined to one profession or career.
Medical doctor Yerins approached his time in the Big Brother Naija House with sincerity, he gained alot of fans while he was in the Big Brother House before his Eviction.
The 27-year-old enjoys drawing, playing chess, listening to music, and making it too. He also has plans to write a medical book in the near future.
He identifies himself as a fun-loving, creative and curious person – and says his curiosity has helped him to garner expert knowledge in many fields, from modelling and digital animation to fashion design.
The high point of Yerins’ life is when he graduated from Medical University in Ukraine and finally got to see his parents for the first time in 9 years.
15. Rachel Ogonodi
Rachel Ogonodi is from Amassoma, Bayelsa state, Nigeria. She was the first person to win the blind auditions of the 2021 edition of The Voice Nigeria.
The 31-year-old singer is a music teacher from Bayelsa State. The young lady who lost her mum in 2017 expressed how she was broken at that point in her life, and how music has been that part of her that kept her moving forward with support from her father and siblings.
After singing Ijoba Orun by Lara George, Rachel emerged the first winner of the blind auditions with all four judges on hitting the buzzer (voting) for her.
16. Kendris Ebitimi Ologidi
Kendris Ologidi is a talented singer from Bayelsa state. He was one of the Top contestants at ‘The Voice’ Season 2 in the Year 2017. In the blind auditions, he sang ‘What a Girl’ Wants by Christina Aguilera & he got turns from all the Judges. Kendris Ologidi ended the show on a high note and got a piggy-back ride from his Coach Timi Dakolo.
Kendris won the ‘Giano Karaoke Idol’ season 2 in his state, Bayelsa and he’s a graduate of Niger Delta University.
17. Deborah Quickpen
Deborah Quickpen is Nigeria’s youngest gold medallist, she defeated 19 other contestants to emerge the winner of the just concluded U-10 Africa Youth Chess Championship in Accra, Ghana.
The 9-year-old Bayelsa-born chess prodigy was crowned champion on Monday after she amassed 8.0 points, to defeat Tunisia’s Hasnaoui Abrar in her 9th and final game.
The multiple medalist was among the two Nigerians selected to participate in the competition, alongside others from Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Tunisia and South Africa.
Following her emergence as the champions of the African junior chess, Deborah has now made history as the youngest female chess player to bag a WOMAN CANDIDATE MASTER title.
In 2019, Deborah Quickpen was ranked seventh in Africa, and first in West Africa after the Chess Championship in Namibia in 2019.
