Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd) has been appointed as the sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs. Early Life and Education
Ibok-Ete Ibas was born on April 27, 1960, in Itu, Akwa Ibom State. He obtained his early education at Topo Grammar School in Badagry, Lagos State, and later attended the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.
Naval Career
Ibas enlisted in the Nigerian Navy in 1979 and underwent his officer training at the Nigerian Defence Academy. He was commissioned as a Sub-Lieutenant in 1983 and rose through the ranks, serving in various capacities, including:
– Commanding Officer, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Ruwan Yaro
– Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Thunder
– Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command
– Chief of Naval Staff (2015-2019)
