Netflix Commits to Nigerian Market, Debunks Exit Rumors
Netflix has officially debunked rumors that it’s exiting the Nigerian market. In a statement, the streaming giant reaffirmed its commitment to Nigerian stories, saying, “We are not exiting Nigeria. We will continue to invest in Nigerian stories to delight our audience”.
This clarification comes after renowned filmmaker Kunle Afolayan sparked speculation about Netflix’s plans in Nigeria. Afolayan claimed that Netflix had canceled several commissioned projects, fueling concerns about the platform’s future in the country.
However, Netflix has reassured its subscribers that it’s dedicated to showcasing Nigerian content and supporting local filmmakers. The company has invested over $23 million in Nigeria’s film industry since 2016, backing over 250 locally licensed titles, co-productions, and original commissions.
So, it’s business as usual for Netflix in Nigeria, with a continued focus on bringing Nigerian stories to a global audience.
