Nollywood actress Ekene Umenwa has found herself in the middle of a storm after being accused of spreading gossip about her colleague, Destiny Etiko. While Ekene has tried to maintain a spiritual and composed image on social media, posting prayers and inspirational messages, many fans and industry insiders believe she’s trying to cover up her actions — and they’re not buying it.
The drama began when Ekene made remarks in a now-viral video that many interpreted as shade aimed at Destiny Etiko. Though she didn’t mention any names, the timing and content of her comments led viewers to believe she was targeting Destiny. Shortly after, Destiny’s fans and several Nollywood stars came to her defense, publicly showing support and condemning Ekene’s behavior.
What escalated the situation was Destiny Etiko’s response. In a post that quickly went viral, she wrote:
_“She will forgive, but not forget.”_
The statement was seen as a subtle but powerful message — one of grace, but also of remembrance. It suggested that while Destiny may choose to forgive Ekene for her words, she won’t forget the hurt or betrayal behind them.
Adding fuel to the fire, Instagram user Munamazon left a sharp comment that has since gained massive attention. She wrote:
_“I love the fact that Destiny wrote; She will forgive, but not forget, because Ekene Umenwa was still posting prayers like nothing said about her was true whereas she actually said this. Nne abeg no forget.”_
Her words resonated with many, and the comment section quickly filled with others echoing the same sentiment — that Ekene’s spiritual posts were nothing more than a front to avoid accountability.
Several Nollywood actresses and actors have also weighed in, with many showing clear support for Destiny. Names like Etinosa Idemudia, Queen Wokoma, Phyna, Uche Ogbodo, and others have been spotted encouraging Destiny on her posts, while subtly (and sometimes directly) criticizing Ekene. Some even posted cryptic messages about “fake friends” and “two-faced energy” in the industry — widely believed to be aimed at Ekene.
The fallout has been swift. Insiders say Ekene may now struggle to secure collaborations with many of her peers, especially those who have publicly sided with Destiny. “In this industry, once your name is linked to betrayal or gossip, people start to pull away,” one source explained. “It’s not just about one comment — it’s about trust.”
Ekene Umenwa has yet to respond directly to the allegations or the growing criticism. Her continued posts about faith and prayer have done little to quiet the noise, and many fans are now demanding she address the issue head-on or offer a sincere apology.
