A prayer at Alex Ekubo’s burial has sparked hope and tears across Nigeria. During the late Nollywood actor’s final rites in Arochukwu, Abia State, a traditional ruler reportedly announced that Alex’s wife Anwuli Amakom Ekubo may be pregnant with his child.
The Palace Prayer That Broke the Internet
On Wednesday, June 17, 2026, Alex’s remains arrived in his hometown for wake-keep ahead of his funeral on June 18. The convoy stopped at the palace of the Eze Aro of Arochukwu.
While praying over the casket in Igbo, the traditional ruler asked God that Alex’s lineage would not end. He then claimed: _“We have received news that the actor’s wife is pregnant. The child we hear she’s carrying will do exploits more than his father”_.
Victoria Inyama later clarified the man was a representative of the Eze Aro, not the monarch himself.
Mixed Reactions: Joy vs Privacy
The video went viral instantly. Fans flooded social media with prayers and excitement, calling it “a final gift from the late actor” and “joy coming”.
But others questioned the public announcement. @officialnorachy wrote: _“This information should be private 😢, you see this world eeh even if you mind your business some people no go still mind their own”_. Some said Alex would’ve preferred it private.
Grief at the Graveside
Throughout the burial, Alex’s widow Anwuli was seen in a white outfit, nose mask and sunglasses, in a sombre mood. Viral clips showed her performing a final act at the graveside, supported by Alex’s sister, and crying bitterly.
One clip of her almost jumping into the grave trended, capturing the depth of her grief.
No Official Confirmation Yet
Alex Ekubo passed away on May 11, 2026 after a long battle with liver cancer. He had married Anwuli, an executive in Nigeria’s energy sector, in a private ceremony.
As of now, Alex’s family has not officially confirmed the pregnancy claim. Abia State Governor Alex Otti, represented by his Chief of Staff, described Alex’s death as “a monumental loss”.
