There was brief panic in Ijebu-Jesa, Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, when the podium hosting Governor Ademola Adeleke and other dignitaries suddenly collapsed during a political rally.
Thankfully, the governor and all officials escaped unhurt.
How It Happened
The incident occurred during the launch of the _Imole Canvassers_ initiative organized by Accord candidate for Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi. About 10,000 canvassers had gathered to be inaugurated for the governor’s re-election campaign across Obokun/Oriade and Osun East Senatorial District.
A 30-second video from the event shows performers on stage while the anchor was wrapping up a session. Governor Adeleke stood to address supporters, and as others on the crowded stage also moved, the structure gave way and caved in.

No Casualties, Event Resumed
Eyewitnesses said the collapse triggered panic and commotion among attendees. Security personnel and event organizers quickly rushed in, assisted those affected out of the rubble, and restored calm.
Senior government sources confirmed that Governor Adeleke and all prominent officials were safe and did not sustain serious injuries. The governor’s deputy spokesperson, Oladele Bamiji, said the incident was “not as serious as being portrayed” and the event went on smoothly afterward.
Rep. Bamidele Salam, who represents Ede North/Ede South/Egbedore/Ejigbo, also confirmed Adeleke’s safety on Facebook, posting a photo of the governor with his deputy, Accord Chairman Pastor Victor Akande, and other officials after the rally. He wrote: “With His Excellency Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, after a very successful rally in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State, where Pelumi Olajengbesi launched a massive campaign in support of the Governor”.
The programme was briefly disrupted but resumed, and the governor went on to address the gathering.
