President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fighting terrorism, declaring that the government will not bow to pressure from criminal groups demanding the release of their associates in custody.
The President made the statement while reacting to the death of retired Major-General Abubakar Rabe, expressing shock and sadness over the tragic incident. He described the late military officer as a patriot who dedicated a significant part of his life to the service and security of Nigeria.
Tinubu emphasized that terrorist groups and other criminal elements would not succeed in weakening the resolve of the government. According to him, releasing suspects in custody in response to threats or attacks would undermine national security efforts and embolden criminal networks.
The President also extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, friends, and associates affected by the loss. He assured Nigerians that security agencies remain committed to protecting lives and property while intensifying efforts to dismantle terrorist operations across the country.
The statement comes amid ongoing concerns about insecurity in parts of Nigeria, with citizens calling for stronger measures to combat terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. The federal government maintains that sustained military operations and improved intelligence gathering remain key strategies in restoring peace and stability.
As the nation mourns the loss of a respected retired military officer, the administration has reiterated its determination to ensure that those responsible for acts of terror are brought to justice and that Nigeria remains united in the fight against insecurity.
